ExoReality: to infinity and beyond
A special edition of the Alioscopy 3D8K 65", branded as The Portal, has been adapted for single-viewer applications.
Stereoscopic content of all kinds can be used, whether filmed live or rendered in real-time, recorded or pre-rendered. Leveraging cutting-edge eye-tracking technology, it surpasses all previous limits and sets a new standard for immersive experiences.
Without the need for glasses or wearables, a viewer seated 1.5 meters from the monitor can experience an unlimited depth range, as if looking in the distance through a 1.4-meter-wide window. When stereoscopic content allows, scenes can extend well beyond 100 meters in depth. Content can also pop out within arm's reach. This unprecedented experience has been branded ExoReality.
The Portal is intended for a wide range of professional applications, including immersive interpersonal training, cultural industries and museography, remote teleoperation and piloting, simulators, defense and security operations such as drone control and surveillance, advanced health applications, surgical robotics, executive videoconferencing for high-level remote collaboration, and more.
Project ExoReality, featuring The Portal, is a 2025 winner of the call for projects Innovative technologies for immersive virtual worlds, supported by the French Government and operated by Bpifrance under the France 2030 program.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is The Portal?
The Alioscopy 3D8K 65" monitor can be fitted with an eye-tracking camera, allowing it to switch from multiscopic mode with 28 viewpoints, serving multiple viewers, to Portal mode, dedicated to a single viewer. Any stereoscopic content can then be displayed. This dual-mode compatibility is a tremendous asset. Playing stereoscopic content on a multiscopic display also virtually eliminates all crosstalk and provides great freedom in collimating images on screen. In practice, this makes it possible to push back the viewing box of the three-dimensional scene, to the point of rendering depth at a 1:1 scale with no limit. The viewer no longer looks at a screen but through a window. Captivating and natural, the immersive experience delivered by The Portal has a name: ExoReality.
What is the difference between multiscopic mode and Portal mode?
In multiscopic mode, the Alioscopy 3D8K 65" is a superb autostereoscopic display that offers outstanding freedom of positioning for multiple viewers, thanks to its one-metre-wide lobes. Image quality is comparable to Alioscopy's lenticular photographs, exhibited in several museums. The viewing box, with a depth equal to the width of the screen, comfortably displays scenes or objects popping out by a third of their volume and receding by two-thirds in depth. The optimal viewing distance is 3 metres, but the 3D effect can be enjoyed by all viewers standing anywhere between 1.5 m and 7 m from the screen, across a 100° angle. The Portal is reserved for a single viewer, whose pupil position is tracked in real time by a camera. This enables the display to adapt a stereoscopic pair in real time to the exact position of the viewer's eyes.
In summary, in multiscopic mode the display passively spreads 28 images across one-metre-wide lobes that repeat in front of the screen, while in Portal mode it dynamically adapts two images to the pupil position of a single viewer.
What are the technical specifications of the Alioscopy 3D8K 65" monitor?
The monitor features 8K resolution (7680 x 4320 pixels). It must be driven at its native resolution via Dual DisplayPort. It is equipped with a dynamic micro-LED backlight, reaching a brightness of 1500 nits. Thanks to its extremely deep blacks, it can be used by reflection in a semi-transparent mirror to create augmented reality illusions.
What applications is the Alioscopy 3D8K 65" monitor designed for?
In multiscopic mode, the monitor is ideal for communication, education, scientific and medical imaging, CAD, architecture, luxury retail, simulation, hospitality, the metaverse, digital twins, and all professional applications requiring high-end glasses-free 3D visualization, provided that 28-viewpoint content is available or can be rendered.
In Portal mode, the same applications can be reserved for a single viewer, with greatly amplified depth perception. The Portal also opens access to all stereoscopic video content, whether live or recorded, filmed or rendered: executive videoconferencing, telepresence, surgical robotics, telemedicine, remote operation of vehicles, machinery, drones or robots, particularly in hostile environments, defence applications, industrial surveillance, interpersonal training, and more.
